Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a deterioration in the health of most sensitive central portion of the retina, the macula, which is responsible for sharp straight-ahead vision. It is the most common cause of blindness in the people aged 55 years and older in developed countries. As countries in the Asia Pacific region, such as Singapore, become more developed and the longevity of their population increases, the expected increase in prevalence of AMD will pose a major public health problem.
Learn more about AMD, its possible prevention and the importance of regular eye examinations in the elderly from the educational lectures held across various Public Libraries.
